2017 Shanghai Academic Forum for Graduate Students: English-Chinese Contrastive and Translation Study and the 2nd Young and Middle-aged Doctorate Forum for English-Chinese Contrastive and Translation Study
During November 17th and 19th, 2017, 2017 Shanghai Academic Forum for Graduate Students: English-Chinese Contrastive and Translation Study and the 2nd Young and Middle-aged Doctorate Forum for English-Chinese Contrastive and Translation Study was held successfully in our university.
The opening ceremony was held in the morning on November 18th, attended by Prof. Yan Wei, Vice President of SMU, Prof. Yang Bin, dean of the Graduate School, Prof. Pan Guowen, the Honorary Director of the Institute of English-Chinese Contrastive Study and the lifetime professor of East China Normal University, and many famous experts from other universities.
During the two-day forum, nine experts delivered lectures concerning One Belt One Road Initiative and English-Chinese Contrastive and Translation Study. Many scholars attended the seminars, including 46 graduates and young and middle-aged doctors from 44 famous universities home and broad.
On the morning on October 18th, Prof. Pan Wenguo delivered a lecture about the tradition of Chinese academy. Prof. Xu Yulong delivered a lecture concerning the contrastive study under two different Linguistic Typologies. Prof. Fu Jingmin delivered a lecture around standards of translation criticism.
In the afternoon, experts and graduates discussed on five topics in separated panels, including the stepping-out of Chinese culture and translation study and practice, teaching and translation of maritime language, cultural confidence and the contrastive study of Chinese and Foreign languages and culture, the innovation of Chinese local linguistic theory and English-Chinese contrastive study, the innovation of the methods of English-Chinese contrastive and translation study.
Three more experts delivered keynote speeches after group discussions. Prof. Fu Huisheng delivered a lecture about the inspiration of Zan Ning’s eclecticism. Dr. Xiao Luanyi delivered a lecture about the imitation of International Maritime Organization Conference and the application of theory of self to the teaching of maritime language.
In the evening, Prof. Zuo Biao discussed with students about Academy and Life, sharing his own experience in life and academy, encouraging students to promote traditional culture.
On the morning on November 19th, four experts made keynote speech. Prof. Zhou Lingshun delivered a speech about new views of translators on translation. Prof. Tao Youlan delivered a lecture about creative English writing and the stepping-out of Chinese culture. Prof. Zhou Liuxi delivered a lecture about poetic translation. Prof. Hu Kaibao delivered a lecture about corpus and cross-cultural study. After experts’ speeches, an award ceremony was held. 15 doctors and masters gained prizes for the 2017 Shanghai Graduate Academic Forum.
At last, Dean Shang Xin delivered the concluding speech and extended gratitude to all experts and graduates.
