Lecturer Profile:
Professor Shi Zhikang is a third-level professor and doctoral supervisor of Shanghai International Studies University. He was the vice president of China Foreign Language Teaching and Research Association, the vice president of British Literature Branch of Foreign Literature Association, and the executive vice president of Shanghai Foreign Language Association. He has served on the editorial boards of many national magazines and as a professor in many schools. He worked as a temporary employee of UNESCO in Paris, France, translating documents, and received national awards such as the Baogang Education Foundation Outstanding Teacher Award and the Huo Yingdong Education Foundation Outstanding Young Teacher Award. He is one of the lead authors and finalists of the English draft of the Chinese government's report on its bid to host the 2010 World Expo, one of the lead authors and finalists of the English draft of the Chinese government's registration report for hosting the 2010 World Expo, and the lead translator and finalist of the English draft of the outline of the 11th Five-Year Plan and the outline of the 12th Five-Year Plan for the national economic and social development of Shanghai. His main research areas are Shakespeare Studies, American Poetry Studies, and English-Chinese and Chinese-English Translation. He has published more than 60 papers, five series of textbooks, two large dictionaries, and three books.
Lecture Introduction:
Taking the Analects of Confucius as the basic text, the lecture elaborates on the elements of Confucius' doctrine in terms of benevolence, Tao, virtue, learning, ritual, and righteousness.
