Lecture Introduction:
This lecture will discuss the definition of translation, the difficulties of translation, the skills of translation, the pleasures of translation, and the teaching of translation from the perspective of English language learning. Rich and interesting examples will be used to demonstrate the charm of the art of translation and to warn about the problems that should be paid attention to when engaging in translation learning. It will conclude with a list of important reference books for studying English and translation. This lecture is intended mainly for undergraduate and graduate students. It is a practical translation topic.
Lecturer Profile:
Yang Shichao, Professor and Head of Department, College of Foreign Languages, Xiamen University, and Doctor of Translation Studies, Shanghai International Studies University. He has visited the University of Edinburgh, the University of Surrey, and the University of Warwick in the UK. He has published more than 40 papers in well-known journals at home and abroad, such as China Translation, Journal of Foreign Languages and Linguist, etc. He has participated in many UNESCO-sponsored forums on interpretation and translation. In addition, he has devoted himself to the practice of English-Chinese translation for a long time and has published several translation works.
